ABBA On The Web – December 2006Blogs have become one of the big success stories on the internet over the last couple of years. What is a blog? Blog is short for weblog. Blogs originally started as a form of on-line diary, or log, where people would write about their daily lives, which their friends would read and add comments. But like all things on the ‘net, nothing stays the same for long. Blogs have become a popular place for people to write about their interests, and visitors can respond. They have turned from personal diaries to marketing tools and fan sites, with interactivity that you don’t get from the usual static website. There are of course several ABBA blog sites that have joined the ranks of the most popular ABBA websites in a short period of time. One of the first ever was Mikory’s ABBA-blog. Micke from Sweden has been an ABBA fan since the very beginning, and has a huge collection of vintage articles and pictures from Swedish magazines which he translates into English. There are some truly unique items here that shed a whole new perspective of Sweden’s’ attitude to ABBA in their heyday. Also included is all the latest news and stories from Sweden. There are photo galleries of ABBA as a group and the individual members from those early days right up to today. The ABBA Scrapbook by Bonnie from The Netherlands is another blog with many rare and unusual photos of ABBA from Bonnie’s extensive thirty-plus year collection. This is more of a light-hearted take on ABBA, with Bonnie often adding humorous captions to the photographs, which adds a sense of fun! Bonnie says she tries to update her blog every day, so regular return visits are encouragedThe title of the blog ABBA Today pretty much explains exactly what it is – it features all the latest news and photos of the ABBA members, plus news of ABBA as a group and other related artists in Sweden, with English translations of articles from Swedish newspapers. Ronaldo from Aruba has two separate blogs dedicated to photographs of ABBA – ABBA B&W which collects black and white photographs, while ABBA features photographs only in colour. Both of these excellent blogs have many different and rarely-seen photos.ABBA en France et Belgique is a little different from the blogs mentioned so far – this blog is dedicated to ABBA in France and Belgium, with records, television appearances and cover versions released in these two countries. This blog is in French, but for non-French speakers, it’s still enjoyable to see this unique take on an ABBA blog, with unique French record sleeves and photos from ABBA’s visits to France. That’s just a small sample of the blogs that are out there for ABBA fans. |
