The
Australasian tour of MAMMA MIA! has now ended.
After breaking box office records
in London, Toronto, San Francisco and Los Angeles, on 9 June 2001 MAMMA MIA! had its Australian premiere at the Princess Theatre
in Melbourne, Victoria (previews from 31 May). It closed on 23 June 2002.
On 5 July 2002 the musical
opened at the Lyric Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts
Centre, Southbank,
Brisbane, Queensland, and closed on 8 September.
On
26 September 2002, the
musical opened at the Lyric
Theatre, Star City,
Sydney, New South Wales, (previews from 18 September)
and closed on 5 October 2003.
On
18 October 2003
the musical opened at the
Burswood Theatre,
Perth, Western Australia and closed on 13
December.
On 26
December 2003, the musical opens at the
Festival Theatre,
Adelaide, South Australia, and closed on 20 February 2004.
Following
the Adelaide run, the Australasian tour performed in Auckland (New Zealand),
Hong Kong, and Singapore.
On 18
December 2004, the musical re-opened
at the Lyric Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts
Centre, Southbank, Brisbane, Queensland, and closed
on 19 February 2005.
On 5 March
2005, MAMMA MIA! opened at
Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne, Victoria,
and closed on 9 June 2005.
MAMMA MIA! tells the story of a
mother and daughter on the eve of the daughter's wedding. The fun starts when,
unknown to the mother, the daughter invites the three men who could be her
father to the wedding. Twenty-two of ABBA's biggest hits are woven throughout
the story, written by Catherine Johnson.
