ABBA to reunite for special concertMonday, July 6 2009, 11:08 BST Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus of '70s music group ABBA have confirmed that they will be taking part in a concert later this year. Thank You For The Music: A Celebration Of The Music Of ABBA will be hosted by Radio 2 on September 13 in Hyde Park. It is believed that the group will perform ABBA's greatest hits, together with special guest stars. It is not yet known who else will perform. In a statement, Andersson and Ulvaeus said: "This is the greatest honour that can be bestowed on any songwriter. We are absolutely delighted." The Swedish quartet were recently rumoured to be taking over some of the Michael Jackson concert dates at the O2. However, they denied a permanent reunion, saying: "We would like people to remember us as we were. Young, exuberant, full of energy and ambition." ABBA were hugely successful in the 1970s and '80s and, although they stopped recording in 1982, they never officially split up. Source: Digital Spy On 3 July 2009 it was announced that a concert Thank You For The Music: A Celebration Of The Music Of ABBA hosted by BBC Radio 2 would be held in London's Hyde Park on 13 September 2009, with participation by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Above is an example of how it has been reported that "the group" will perform at this concert, assuming some form of ABBA reunion. According to the BBC site the concert will feature "an array of stars of some of Benny and Bjorn’s most famous songs". It has been reported that the concert will feature not only ABBA songs but also songs from the musicals Chess and Kristina (aka Kristina från Duvemåla). |
