THANK YOU FOR THE MUSICA 90 minute special for ITVIt was in 1977, during their phenomenally successful world tour, that ABBA for the first (and only) time performed their mini-musical 'The Girl With The Golden Hair'. Written by Benny and Bjorn, it was the duo's first step into the world of musical theatre. In retrospect the musical can be seen as a mirror of what was to happen to the group in the future, particularly Agnetha, whose experience of being 'The Girl With The Golden Hair' was truly bitter sweet.30 years on, Iambic Productions presents the first ever complete recording and performance of the musical in the UK, starring Atomic Kitten's Liz McClarnon and creator of The Rocky Horror Show Richard O'Brien. Source: Liz McClarnon.net October 31, 2005Many people seem to have interpreted this article as saying that footage of ABBA performing the mini-musical on the 1977 tour will be shown on this television programme. However, the article clearly states that the performance is starring Liz McClarnon and Richard O’Brien. Update 28 December 2006: As anticipated, the programme only featured the three mini-musical songs from ABBA - The Album - Thank You For The Music, I Wonder (Departure) and I'm A Marionette, and even then the songs were incomplete, mostly just one verse and chorus. The fourth song, Get On The Carousel, was mentioned in passing, but not even footage from ABBA's performance from ABBA - The Movie was shown. |
