ABBA Oro - Grandes Exitos
PolyGram 1992/remastered 1999
2nd paragraph: "
Dancing Queen, a song which they performed at
the wedding of the King of Sweden to his bride, Silvia Sommerlath." Half right (but
more wrong than on Toblers previous notes for ABBA Gold). It was actually
performed at a gala concert on the eve of the wedding.
3rd paragraph: describes the title Mamma Mia as "Latin American",
rather than Italian.
The notes fail to adequately explain the history of the songs included on the CD,
instead focussing on a potted history of ABBA. Nowhere is it mentioned that the album was
originally released as Gracias Por La Música in 1980.
Additional notes for 1999 remastered CD:
Additional notes tagged onto the end of the 1992 version without any updating of the
earlier section.
6th paragraph: "In fact, four of the bonus tracks had not appeared in any form
when the original Gracias Por La Musica LP was released back in
1980
" Obviously, since they were not recorded until later in 1980 and 1981.
Same paragraph: "The fifth bonus track should perhaps have been included on both
the Gracia [sic] Por La Musica LP and the original ABBA Oro, because
Ring Ring was one of the earliest ABBA hits
" The Spanish version of
Ring Ring was recorded in July 1973 but unreleased, and it is entirely likely
that by the time the Gracias Por La Música was recorded in January 1980
(featuring only two songs from earlier than 1976) Ring Ring had been
completely forgotten, as it remained unreleased until 1993.
