Waterloo
Polydor remastered CD 1997
2nd paragraph: "
'Ring Ring'
eventually became a chart-topping hit in
eight countries" Wrong, only in two: Sweden (where the Swedish version actually
topped the chart and the English version reached number 2) and Belgium.
3rd paragraph, 2nd column: "Then [Stig], Benny & Björn began to craft
suitable lyrics to the song ['Waterloo']
" Wrong. Stig wrote the first version
of the lyrics himself, which were then polished up by all three men.
3rd paragraph, 2nd column: "Stig took a tape of the new tune with him on
holiday
and thought hard about a title, finally settling on... "hasta
manana". Not quite right: he also wrote an entire lyric, and in an often reported
story, sang the lyrics over the phone to Benny and Björn back in Sweden, to the amusement
of other hotel guests. Then there's the incorrect spelling of "mañana".
3rd paragraph, 2nd column: "Falkstog" Not only misspelling the name without
the letter "ä", but transposing the "k" and "t".
4th paragraph: "They finally decided that everyone should wear eye-catching
costumes which were both colourful and not easy to forget." Wrong, as these costumes
were also worn at the Swedish heat for Eurovision, mentioned in the earlier paragraph.
4th paragraph: "
Sven-Olof Waldoff
dressed in the style of Napoleon,
even wearing a recognisably Napoleonic hat (as seen on the sleeve of this album)."
Wrong. It is bassist Mike Watson who wears the Napoleon costume on the LP sleeve, though
it is true that Walldoff wore the costume at both the Swedish heat and the Eurovision Song
Contest in Brighton.
As with the Ring Ring CD, the discussion concentrates on the Eurovision Song
Contest, even going to such lengths as naming the winners for several previous years.
