ABBA On The Web - December 2002With the news that Frida’s duet with opera singer Filippa Giordano has finally been released (but only in Japan, so far) and apparent confirmation that Agnetha is indeed recording a new album, both of the ABBA women are foremost in our minds. It’s timely then to take a look at a couple of my favourite web sites dedicated to our two favourite women, both in and out of ABBA. The Frida tribute site Twist in the Dark, has been around for a few years now and is already popular with Frida fans everywhere. Created by Grant Whittingham in Australia, this is the one stop site for all things Frida. It’s easy to navigate, with both frames and non-frames versions. It’s got a simple and elegant look, worthy of our favourite Princess. In Twist in the Dark you’ll find a complete discography of Frida’s solo releases, including her many guest vocal appearances on other artists’ songs. You’ll be surprised at the number of recordings that Frida has appeared on – she used to be a busy girl! Pictures are always a popular feature on websites, and of course, Twist in the Dark is no exception. There’s a selection of galleries with many photos of Frida taken over the years, including many private photos submitted by fans. In the Trivia section you’ll find some very interesting and not so well known facts about Frida, as a songwriter and actress. Did you know that she’s been in three movies? Did you know that she wrote a song that her son Hans recorded? No? Well, you’d better take a look here. There’s also an Archive section with many historic articles and press releases about Frida. The most popular section of the site is, of course, the News page. Regularly updated with all the latest news about Frida, you’ll always know what she’s been up to lately. And of course, it’s been the place for all the up to the minute news on the release of Frida’s duet. If you’re a Frida fan, you’re probably already well aquainted with this site. If not, you should be! A new Agnetha site has recently appeared that Agnetha fans will want to visit again and again. It’s called Agnetha Then and Now. This site is created by Pam from the USA. Then and Now is mostly a massive archive of pictures of Agnetha at all stages of her life. The various galleries are arranged chronologically, starting off before ABBA, through her meeting and marrying Björn, during ABBA’s heyday, the post-ABBA solo period and even in recent years. There are many amazing photos that I’ve never seen before. There are also biographical details in each gallery, so that you can follow Agnetha’s life story as you look at the pictures. It’s easy to move around the site, with the text appearing in a frame to the left, and the pictures all in the main frame. Links at the bottom of each page let you go through all the galleries in order. But it’s not all Agnetha. There are also smaller galleries of the other three ABBA members, with some amazing photos that you’ve probably not seen before. So, while you’re all listening to ‘La barcarolle’ and waiting for Agnetha’s new album, you can pass the time visiting these two excellent websites. And trust me, there’s hours of viewing in both of them. |
