ABBA flies in for TV show: Swedish pop group ABBA… here for Bandstand
special appearances
By Peter Grimshaw - The Daily Telegraph 5 March 1976
Swedish pop group ABBA arrived in
Sydney
late last night to make a one-hour Bandstand special.
Earlier this year, ABBA became the first group since The Beatles to have
three singles in the Sydney Top 10 at the same time.
All three hits – I Do, I Do, I Do,
I Do, I Do, Mamma Mia, and
SOS - eventually made it to the No.1 spot.
The Bandstand special will be filmed in Melbourne and Sydney and will be
available for international release.
Leader of ABBA, Benny Andersson, said he wants Australian artists to
appear in the special, too.
Andersson is engaged to ABBA singer, Frida Lyngstad, while the other two
members of the band, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog are married.
During their stay ABBA will appear on Celebrity Squares and The Don Lane
Tonight Show.
