New documentary…ABBA’s flip side
TV Week 2 October 1976
It promises to be the ABBA special of the year.
Thanks to TV Week’s own pop personality-columnist, Ian Meldrum, who recently
spent a month with the world famous group, filming them in their home town of
Stockholm – among their own friends, in a truly relaxed atmosphere, there will
be some great footage.
After editing several hundred feet of film, the 7 Network will release the
one-hour special ABBA In Sweden next Thursday night, September 30th at
7.30 p.m.
Perhaps the hottest property on Australian TV screens this year, ABBA made a
nation of friends and fans during their visit here earlier this year.
Since then, negotiations between the group, Channel 7 and Ian Meldrum to film
the four membered group “at home” exclusively, have been given full attention
and now finally, the special is ready to roll.
Throughout the special, Anna, Benny, Björn and Frida, are interviewed by
Meldrum about their hit records, their lives together, their plans and as they
talk, an added bonus of the special, features the beautiful scenery in and
around Stockholm.
Songs during the program feature the group’s biggest hits from their latest,
Dancing Queen, to the hits that started it all for them – Mamma Mia,
Waterloo, Ring, Ring, Rock Me, Honey, Honey,
S.O.S., Tropical Loveland and Fernando.
Meldrum also talks to the group’s manager, Stig Anderson and to Sweden’s top
disc jockey, Ulf Elving.
