1 April 2000:Welcome to a new generation ABBA web site. ABBA World incorporates the site formerly known as ABBALINK and so much more. ABBA World is your new launching pad to ABBA on the internet. Construction of ABBA World started way back in October 1998. It was originally planned to be on-line in time for ABBA's 25th anniversary celebrations in April 1999, but due to circumstances and the size of the project, it took a lot longer to compile than originally envisaged. In the future this page will list any updates to this site. There are more sections planned, so please visit again to check out the developments as they happen. This site would not have been possible without input and assistance from many people around the world, who you'll find credited in various sections within ABBA World. But there are several people to thank in the overall creation of ABBA World: Thanks to Carl Magnus Palm for your contribution
to ABBA history (and for making me a part of it Additional thanks to Andries Provoost, for continuous updates and corrections for things that weren't "quite right" with this site. It's nice to know that people are checking up on me and the feedback is very much appreciated. If like Andries you find something wrong here, please let me know so that I can fix it. Thanks to the many contributors to ABBAMAIL, where so much information and opinions on ABBA have been shared since January 1997. Many thanks to Anna Cummings and Natalie Cummings (no relation) at fortunecity.com, for all their help in securing me the domain name www.abbaworld.net. Special thanks to my partner Ian Marks, who tolerates me spending so many hours on the PC creating this site. Please feel free to add ABBA World to your own links page. Visit the link me page to find out how. You can subscribe to receive news updates about the ABBA World site. Just fill in the e-mail address field below.
I hope that you enjoy this wonderful new site and everything in it. Any comments or queries about the site, please e-mail me. ABBA World as created by Ian Cole in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. I have been an ABBA fan since getting hooked after hearing Mamma Mia in late 1975. I have been involved in ABBA conventions and theme nights around Sydney since 1983, and in 1999 had some input into the remastered CDs ABBA Gold, More ABBA Gold, the 2001 reissued ABBA catalogue of all eight studio albums, the 29 CD box set Singles Collection 1972 - 1982, the CD and DVD ABBA The Definitive Collection, the TV special, video and DVD documentary The Winner Takes It All - The ABBA Story, the books Från ABBA till Mamma Mia!/From ABBA To Mamma Mia! and Bright Lights, Dark Shadows: The Real Story Of ABBA. A feature on ABBA's 1976 National commercials from my ABBA Phenomenon in Australia website was featured in issue 26 (Winter 1998) of Intermezzo - International ABBA Magazine, and other writings have appeared in various ABBAMAIL publications and convention programmes. My ABBA Phenomenon site is also being used for a feature on ABBA - The Movie in issue 17 of ABBA Report. I am currently a correspondent to the Agnetha, Benny, Björn, Frida Fan Club, writing a regular feature on "ABBA on the web" for their quarterly magazine, the first article published in the December 2000 issue (number 65). I also write the 'Ask Ian' column on the ABBAMAIL website, answering general questions about ABBA. I originally created this site as ABBALINK in January 1998 because I got tired of trying to keep the many ABBA sites that I'd found bookmarked, and at the time the original ABBA web ring had stalled. I have two other ABBA related websites that you may wish to visit: The ABBA Phenomenon in Australia, which features the full Australian discography, merchandise and memorabilia, ABBA's two visits to Australia, and much, much more; and The Grand Tour Online Photo Album, which features photographs of my trip to Europe in March and April 1999 to attend the International ABBA Day in Roosendaal, The Netherlands, and the premiere of the musical Mamma Mia! in London. I also have a personal web page with my partner Ian, Ians Incorporated. This site was created using Microsoft FrontPage 98 and Microsoft FrontPage 2000, Microsoft Image Composer, Microsoft GIF Animator and Corel Photo House. It is best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or better. Some features may not work on older versions of IE or other web browsers. Sorry about that. |
