Universal/PolyGram will continue to mine the ABBA catalog in 1999. A limited
edition of ABBA Gold- Greatest Hits,
the disc that has already sold 13 million units worldwide and continues to sell
over a million copies per year, was issued on March 29th, 1999.
Digitally remastered in 24-bit from the original multitracks, it features the
signatures of the four members on the jewel case and new liner notes by ABBA
historian Carl Magnus Palm. This edition will only be available through the end
of 1999. A contemporary edition of a singles box issued in 1984 by Epic Records
in the U.K. will be re-released by Polydor U.K. on April 5th, 1999. It’s a 29
CD-single package, featuring all of the original U.K. A and B sides, with a
bonus disc of Waterloo in Swedish,
according to Jackie Stansfield, senior international product manager of
Universal/PolyGram International. Packaged in a tin box, the pressing is limited
to 20,000 copies.
