A question many people ask me – particularly at this time of year – is where music might be heading in the next year or so.
It’s always a tough one to answer, but what I do feel is that as far as cover versions of old songs go, enough is enough!
I think it’s time to get back to the basics of melodic, original music.
I’ve had a lot of argument with people about ABBA – particularly in light of their recent revival on the charts.
The single fact is that they represent an ideal for any group or artist when you’re talking about great commercial songs that are beautifully recorded.
To prove the point, the ABBA Gold-Greatest Hits album has been more successful in some countries than any of their previous records!
As far as Australian music is concerned, I also see a distinct shift to the fusion between rap and heavy rock.
Whatever happens in the year ahead, I’ll keep you in touch with it all in 1993 through Humdrum and Hey, Hey it’s Saturday! Transcribed for ABBA World
